Since near the centre there stands proudly the castle Barking Esguard and reflects the longest past times again, as a repatriate followed to Sóller of her missed orange harvest, and the nicest houses built with her wealth found anew. This castle boasts of the copy of a Gothic tower, more numerously of other towers and gargoyles. With his 14 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 sitting rooms and a main food room his former shine must be brought back to this property rightly. This wonderful, imaginatively formed, fantastic castle "Bell Esguard", an unusual building, lies on the Soller mountain slope and takes his place there. Is able to do Prunera, Soller's Museeum for modern art, is a place of interest and almost every street has of a few these nice buildings. Can Barking Esguard is an atypical building which surprises not only because of his construction method, but also because of his history: it was established by order of a French immigrant who sat down at the end of the 19th century here. Sóller is situated in a valley on the northwest coast of Majorca, in the middle of the "Sierra de Tramuntana" mountain range, just north of Palma de Mallorca and 30 km from the capital of the Balearic Islands.

The valley of Sóller is surrounded by some of the highest peaks of Majorca: Puig Major (1445m the highest summit of Majorca), Puig del'Ofre (1090m), Sierra de Alfabia (up to 1000m) and Teix (1050m).

The municipality of Sóllers is also home to the "Gardens of the City", s'Horta (la Huerta), the tiny village of Biniaraix, at the foot of the Serra de Alfabia, and Port Port (Puerto). The center of Sóller is about 3 km from the sea and port.

The neighboring communities no longer belonging to Sóller are also very worth seeing. Fornalutx, situated in the same valley a little higher in the direction of the monastery of Lluch and Pollença (Pollensa), was chosen with two narrow and lovingly maintained alleyways and patios, twice the most beautiful village in Spain. Deià (Deya) is located on the slopes of a small valley at the foot of the Teix inmiten the beautiful steep coast. The charm has attracted many famous imigrants, Archduke Ludwig Salvator, for example. Bought at the end of the 18th century wide landmarks around today's Künstlerdorf.

The well-developed main road C711 connects Sóller directly to the capital Palma de Mallorca. Since 1995, the 3.14km long and toll-paying tunnel (a simple transit of a car: 5, - €, stand 1.5.2013) can be used on this route instead of the curving pass "Coll de Sóller".

The relatively narrow and winding C710 leads from Valldemossa / Deià to Sóller in the direction of Fornalutx, Lluch and Pollensa. This road leads through impressive landscapes and is always worth a trip.

The nostalgic railway "Tren de Sóller", also called "Red Lightning" or "Orange Express", connects Sóller with Palma de Mallorca. In many tunnels it goes under the Sierra de Alfabia. Driving time approx. 1 hour (here you can find the timetable).

The very striking tram "Tramvía" connects the city center of Sóller with the port. Driving time approx. 20min.

As in the whole of Mallorca, especially Llucmayor ("Capocorb Vell") and Artà ("Ses Paisses"), finds near Sóller point to the Talayot culture. For the first time historically Sóller was mentioned in the time of the Romans on Mallorca (from 123 BC). Like most Mallorquins during these times, people earned their livelihood in addition to agriculture and cattle farming, especially with piracy and as (stone-hurling) mercenaries in wars, eg. The 2nd Punic War.

But piracy was not only a source of income, but also a great threat to the Mallorquins, and especially to the seaside and geographically isolated Sóllerics. Over and over again, sea raids were raging and the population tried to protect themselves by an island-wide network of watchtowers (Atalayas). Above the port of Sóller and very close by, on Mount Balitx, there are still two specimens of these mighty watchtowers.
The inhabitants of Sóller still celebrate the outcome of a certain pirate attack in May 1561, that is, during the Moorish invasion of Mallorca. With the loud and enthusiastically celebrated celebrations "Moros y Cristianos" the defense against the attack of Algerian invaders is thought.
