Burgher/Mansion building is located on Hlavná ulica( Main Street) No.21 in Prešov (the third-largest city in Slovakia). Originally built in the 19th century, the foundation in this form was two buildings. The building was originally used as a post office. In the beginning of the 20th century the building was rebuilt roughly into today's shape. After it was purchased by our family in 1921 the building was modernized.
This building was built in eclectic style and it is listed as a historic landmark.
The building consists of 2 stories above ground and 2 stories below ground levels. The attic consists of wood trusses covered with galvanized sheet metal. In the center of the building is a sky light opening spanning from the attic to the 1st floor. There are 8 built chimneys. The house is built on stone foundation. The outside walls are made are of mixed wall material. The basement ceiling is mostly arched bricks and the rest of the walls are made from flat brick. The height of the 1st underground floor measures 4.5m. The height of the 2nd underground floor measures 4m. The attic's height at the highest point is 6.3 m. Two cargo elevators are also part of the building. One elevator is accessible from the main street to the 1st underground floor and can carry up to 250 kg without an operator. The second elevator is accessible from the courtyard side and can carry 500 kg with an operator and has 4 stations.
On the 1st above ground floor an air condition system is installed with 6000m3 power air/hour. The heating and hot water supply are secured by two almost new gas boilers. The building has electric wiring for heavy operation with 3x100A breakers. In 2006 a new drainage system was connected to the main system on Main Street .
The brick garage is also part of the building and is located in the court yard. The entrance to the court yard is from Tkáčska Street through the gate and neighboring property. This entrance was created as a stipulation for allowing construction of the building next door and as an entrance to our property.
For the past 26 years this building was used mostly for business purposes by the owners.
At this time the building houses these businesses:
- Restaurant with complete technological equipment in rear and on the 1st above ground floor
- Store with memorabilia and artistic items on the 1st above ground floor and part of 1st below ground floor
- Clothing boutique located on 2nd above ground floor
- Seamstress operation on 2nd above ground floor
The basement area was partially reconstructed on the basis of building permits. Reconstruction was not completely finished and complete project documentation was approved through the Historical office and by the Construction office.
